New Delhi: Indian Flight Regulatory Agency, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a fine of RS 20 Lakh at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Kolkata (NSCBIA) international airport to violate safety norms by ignoring the maintenance of the runway.
“After the regulator started the security audit for the airport a few months ago, the audit report found that NSCBIA had committed serious security norms, especially in the runway maintenance work.
It was decided to impose a fine of Rs 20 Lakh,” a senior official from DGCA confirmed to Ani .
The DGCA audit report suggested that Kolkata Airport be negligent in the maintenance of the runway with the safety requirements mandated.
Regulations have issued a notification of performances to the airport if there is a serious violation of the security rules at the airport.
“According to the audit report, maintenance of runways at Kolkata airport is not carried out according to the guidelines, the lights on the runway are not correctly and the rubble of foreign objects (FOB) is reported on the runway, which can be part of the aircraft safety during landing and takeoff is a problem , “DGCA officials told Ani.
The Indian Airport Authority (AAI) did not comment on Ani’s question regarding DGCA’s actions, but AAI’s sources told Ani that, “Internal Committee was formed to see the incident.”
