Hubballi: In an effort to offer smart technology making to trace some of their favorite titles in the comfort of their home, the library department in Karnataka developed an e-library application to allow readers to access the property of Vast books.
Books in the General Library in Dharwad, which is a true paradise for bibliophils, has also been digitized, and uploaded on the application database.
Furthermore, the reader at Dharwad has been brought to a new Avatar of the library with Gusto – almost 1.5 Lakh readers who have registered in the application, called e-sarvajanik Granthalaya, from North Carnataka District.
This application was launched by the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar in February 2020.
Overall, there are 272 public libraries throughout Karnataka, and so far, the application has been downloaded by 2.5 crore readers.
Cloud-based resources offer access readers to books in English, Kannada, Urdu and Marathi, in addition to the latest copies of magazines and newspapers.
Deputy Director of the Library Department MB Karigar told TII, “There are three digital libraries in twin cities, where we have installed computers and tablets to allow readers to access books in the database.
So far, the government has channeled funds for six computers, and 12 tablets.
With the remaining schools and colleges closed because of the kuncian, there are many requests from readers that they are given access to soft copies of books.
Students among those who use e-library facilities are widely.
“Karigar has experienced department initiatives to ensure readers Can continue to read even when the library is closed because of the lock.
Rahul MB, a reader, praised the government’s initiative.
“During locking when the library and bookstore are closed, this application helps students like I read a lot of books, while preparing for competitive exams.
I can access books about science, trade, management, et al,” he said.
