Haveri: The MLC Constituency of the Local Body Dharwad has 407 illiterate voters – 101 in Gadag, 140 in Dharwad and 66 in Haveri.
They will give their voices with the help of a friend at the booth polling.
“The election of the Local MLC Agency has a preferential voting system, so voters must be able to read and write.
Therefore the electoral commission has given choice of illiterate and blind voters to choose with the help of a friend.

We have received The request was from 407 illiterate voters, “said Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil, who was also the officer who returned.
Patil further said the companion must be a member of a family or friend and should not be a political party worker.
Most importantly, friends must maintain confidentiality after voters throw sound, the other legal action will begin against the companion, he added.
Meanwhile, BJP has objected to this new system in MLC polls.
BJP Secretary General N Ravikumar said, “This will be easy for candidates to get the sound from the backdoor, so that the illegal voting way should not be permitted,” he said.
