Chennai: Chennai Super Kings Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni landed in the city on Tuesday ahead of the departure of a group of players to the UAE, which will host the remaining Indian Premier League next month.
Most Indian players will travel to UAE most likely on August 13, said a top CSK official.
“The Indian players in the team, anyone available, will travel to the UAE on August 13 in all possibilities,” CSK KS Viswanathan CEO told PTI.
Fans celebrated Dhoni’s arrival in Chennai on social media.
“Lion Day entry,” CSK posted with a photo of Dhoni in Twitter handle about the captain reaching the city.
There will be no camp in Chennai before CSK players fly to UAE, Viswanathan said.
The second half of the 2021 IPL will be held in the UAE from September 19 after the tournament was postponed because of the outbreak of Covid-19 in the bubble.
BCCI then decided to do the rest of the match in the UAE, which managed to hold IPL 2020.
CSK continued the IPL campaign on September 19 with the match against Mumbai Indians.
The Dhoni-LED side was in second place with 10 points after seven matches before the league was postponed.
