Mumbai: World Cup and captain World T20 Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been chosen in the Indian squad for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup that BCCI will host the UAE between October 17 and November 14.
Except that Dhoni will be part of the team as a mentor.
The former Indian captain will work with coach of Ravi Shastri’s head and all coach staff during the entire tournament.
BCCI, on Wednesday, announced 15 troops, and three standbys, which will be led by Virat Kohli.
While voters are in the process of cutting these troops from a very large pond for the past few weeks, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah spoke with Kohli and Shastri about the idea of bringing Dhoni above Dhoni before making a deal to Dhoni.
It was an offer of former Indian goalkeeper unable to refuse because the board insisted on how his experience was rich in format, and the fact that he was the first captain to win this tournament 14 years ago, will be very helpful team.
Dhoni easily approves Shah’s request and will now join the team immediately after the Indian Premier League (IPL) Phase-2, which is also being played in the UAE.
Skipper Chennai Super Kings will be in the UAE, leading his faith in the tournament which will be Swansong his cricket.
“I talked to Dhoni when I was in Dubai.
He agreed to be a mentor for the T20 World Cup.
Captain, ViceCapttain and the coach’s head was consulted, which was why he was on board,” Shah told reporters after the team was announced.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been in the news lately because it is not part of a test match against England, has been picked in T20 troops.
Charan Sharma’s head voter shows that the bowler like Ashwin will be very useful in the condition of the UAE, has been done well in the IPL and, remembering further that Young Sundar Washington is breastfeeding injury.
“He will add to the shadow of the squad,” Sharma said.
Bowling All-Rounder Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who plays a series of white balls recently in Sri Lanka under the training of Rahul Dravid, has also been chosen.
Among the well-known absences were Shikhar Dhawan’s opening, despite being the top scorer at IPL 2020 and Phase-1 IPL 2021, had been abandoned.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg-spinner, who did it well in the 2020 edition of the IPL and has become a constant in the Indian team’s white ball plan, also ignored.
Among several other surprising decisions, voters chose to put the talented middle pole batsman Shreyas Iyer – who had just returned from the injury break – at the standbys beside the All-Rounders Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar.
These aspects of the side, the whole team has chosen himself.
15 troops included three openers (including Kohli), five all-rounders, two keeper-guards-batsmen, three Pacers, one spinner and one central batsman specialist.
Standbies include medium batsman and two alliances.
“The idea is to choose many utility players as much as possible, given the condition of the UAE,” Sharma said while announcing the team.
Sharma also added that hardik pandya all-rounders, who returned to Cricket last year after a long injury break and had limited bowling stints, now ready for the full quota bowl at the T20s.
