Noida: Among the countries with the highest burden of pediatric cancer, report around 30,000 to 40,000 cases every year, most cases like that in Uttar Pradesh are not reported or appear in the advanced stage by reducing survival opportunities.
Cancer Night Children’s Children’s Children’s Day (ICCD), City Based Doctors said there was an urgent need to increase efforts to prepare the state-specific data repository to identify all pediatric cancer patients in the state.
ICD is observed every year on February 15 to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, survivors and their families.
“Preventing cancer between children is not feasible, unlike in adults.
So, early diagnosis of cancer is very important to ensure that care can begin immediately,” Dr.
Nita Radhakrishnan, a Professor of Pediatric-Oncology Hematology at the Postgraduate Child Health Institute, Noida (pgi child), said.
He spoke at a meeting of the childhood cancer advocacy group held under the Academy of Paediatrics Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Under a recent study to ensure the reason patients to stop treatment, members of the PGI Faculty of Children have analyzed data in 154 pediatric cancer patients up to 18 years.
This study found that at least 23 patients had stopped treatment.
Of those 11 patients have quoted the financial crisis, seven family support did not have four patients going for the second opinion and three other severe illness, research showed.
It also found that many low and medium-income families have stopped treatment even after receiving financial assistance.
“Stigma of disease and fear of chemotherapy makes patients seek other treatments,” Dr.
Radhakrishnan, one of the research writers, added.
According to doctors, leukemia, lymphoma and brain tumors, which can be cured and have a higher survival rate, more common among children.
The right nutrition can also help in prevention and play an important role during treatment, they add.
AD Silky Jain, a consultant at the Department of Hematology-Oncology at Jaypee Hospital, said, “During treatment, food intake may be compromised for side effects, such as nausea and oral ulcers.
Caregivers must try and provide high-calorie food and high protein for children Children.
The right nutrition will help children to tolerate treatment and side effects, and also ensure faster recovery and reduce the risk of infection.
“Doctors also highlighted some of the initial symptoms of cancer among children such as repeated fever, weight loss not explained.

According to the Globocan 2020 report and the World Health Organization, low and medium-income countries, including India, takes into account more than 90% of childhood cancer cases in the world with only 20% of survival opportunities.
