New Delhi: The newly installed oxygen factory in hospitals in Tihar prison will be operational in four days while all pharmacies in the three Delhi Prison Complex have been appointed as Covid care centers amid a surge in infection, officials said on Sundays.
As part of the steps taken on the spread of viral diseases in Tihar, Mandoli and the Rohini Prison Complex, many medical insulation cells have been established for prisoners who show little symptoms of Covid-19, they said.
Those who test positive but asymptomatics will be stored in separate insulation cells in the same prison complex.
Tihar prison consisted of middle prison number one to nine, the Rohini complex accommodated the middle prison number 10 while Mandoli Prison Complex accommodated the middle prison number 11 to 16.
Hospital 120 beds in Tihar and 48-bed facilities in Mandoli have been converted into health centers Covid with the presence of a doctor all the time, 50 oxygen concentrators and more than 100 cylinders and essential drugs to treat patients.
“However, if the covid positive prisoner conditions change seriously, then he will immediately shift to Tegah Tegahadur Master Hospital, Lok Hospital Jai Prakash Narayan or Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital,” said a senior prison official.

The prison government said they had formed four committees for prisoners and staff who tested positive covids.

The total number of detainees in all three prisons from Delhi prison on January 7 was 18,528.
Tihar has a maximum of 12,669 inmates, Mandoli 4,018 and Rohini 1,841.
On January 8, a total of 34 positive prisoners.
From them, 19 came from Tihar and 15 of Mandoli.
Of the 40 infected staff members, 25 came from Tihar, 11 of Rohini and four of Mandoli.
In 2020, a total of 120 prisoners from Delhi prison were tested positive for Covid, where two died.
All positive employees 293 Covid recovered.
Last year, 383 prisoners were tested positively and eight of them died.
Among the 225 infected staff, everything recovered.
