Colombo: Sri Liking Spin Legend Muttiah Muralithan has slammed four senior players on the national team for a central contract dispute.
Many players, including seniors such as ex-captain Angelo Mathews and Kusal Perera, have been involved in old disputes with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on the central contract.
Some Sri Lankan Cricketers have refused to sign contracts with the council because of payment disputes after agreeing to play against England in a tourist contract.
Sri Lankan players are said to have not signed a contract for transparency problems, but Muralithan said it was mainly because senior cricket was less paid under the new performance-based system.
“This year we think they don’t need a central contract, we can use a tourist contract,” Murali told Hiru TV.
Cricketers has signed a tour contract ahead of the Indian series starting July 18.
The 49-year-old Muralithan, the highest cricket test recipient test with 800 Scalps, said that senior Cricketers did not allow other young players to sign contracts because of their payment pieces.
Now the players do not take it when offered by the council, Muralitharan said that they would not get a central contract.
Some senior players who are not part of the White-Ball set-up now without a transaction after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) attracts an annual contract offer.
Some players then agreed to sign a central contract after transparency details were revealed, but SLC only offered them a tour contract.
Thanks to the new SLC movement, Cricketers will not be paid every month again, making the most severe test players affected because they do not have a scheduled tour until November.
