ThiruvananThapuram: To resolve severe puddle in the state capital during the rainy season, the district government has prepared detailed reports after surveying and mapping vulnerable areas here.
After studying the report, the government has asked all districts to imitate this project and find solutions to similar problems.
Surveys and mapping were carried out after the flood instance repeated in several parts of the capital, even during a shower which only sustained for several hours.
As many as 60 spots – most of the roads, which are flooded – taken for surveys.
Surveys and mapping determines the location, length of water logging, water logging height, reasons and steps for mitigation.
For example, the first location listed in the report, was accessed by TOI, along the East Fort Road in Manacaud, where the survey had found that the reason for logging was caused by water channel disappointment and continued to the newly built drain as part of anantha operation Connect the TheKkanekkara channel.
It also found that the Thekkanekkara canal blockage also caused flooding in this area.
Likewise, on the Manacaud-Kamaleswaram road, there is water logging which usually runs up to 90 meters at a height of one leg.
The reason is the sewer, as a RS 8 Crore project under the Nabard scheme is still delayed without finishing.
The waterways need to be widened and because all other nearby roads have raised levels; Water flows onto the road.
The survey also found that the main reason for water logging which reached a height of five cm in Jalan Kovil SS in Thampanoor was due to the longitudinal slope of the road not uniform.
Some other main roads in the city that have been surveyed and mapped include Manjalahulam Road, Chala Market Road, Edappazhanji-Jagathy Road, Kannamooola Bridge, Enchakkal-Vallakadavu Road, Kamaleswaram Thiruvallam Road, Road Country, Kalacaumudi Road, GowreesAtom Road, Pipinmoodu Golf Links Road etc.
Floods and logging have become repetitive phenomena in the city, despite doing de-surbon pre-monsoon activities.
This survey was conducted with income assistance, the Department of Public Works, Kerala Road Fund Council, Minor and Main Irrigation Department and City Corporation to identify these places within the corporation corporation limit.
The report was handed over to the district chairman.
Navjot Khoso collector, which then instructs all other districts to use the model as a reference and do the same mapping.
On the basis of the mapping, the district disaster management authorities in these districts have been asked to create mitigation plans in vulnerable areas.
