JAMSHEDPUR: Diwali has brought cheers to the faces of children in Cheshire Home, a school for special children in Jamshedpur.
Unlike last year when there was no chance for prisoners to make candles due to covid-induced restrictions, children had prepared more than 4,000 of them in this Diwali.
Add gloss to happy faces, visitors from social organizations, educational institutions, groups of women and families will visit the house on Thursday to celebrate Diwali with inmates by distributing DIYAS candy and lighting.
“There is no candle in 2020 other than no visitors who are allowed to enter because of joy and happiness is lost during the last diwali,” said Sister Philomena, responsible for Cheshire Home, Sunnernagar.
Institutions such as Xite College, Gamhari, XLRI School of Management, several female groups and six city-based families have ordered candles, while they will also celebrate festivals with children.
“The guests arrived to collect candles they ordered and some carry candy and crackers to celebrate the festival with our children,” said Sr Philomena.
He said there was no home company, a commercial bank or commercial institution that was placed for this candle diwali was not like previous years.
“The organization might think that we did not accept orders for candles because of Covid,” said the house responsible.
Managed by colorful lights, decorative items, and Rangoli, Cheshire home inmates say this year Diwali will be fun.
“The celebration will be muted but preparation has begun.
We are happy and excited,” said Anita, a prisoner.
Gabriela, a prisoner with 40 percent of mental disability, which is proactively involved in making candles, it is happy that the product found the buyer.
For Diwali, inmates have planned a special prayer to beg for the Almighty to remove the pandemic of Coronavirus and deliver in a beautiful past.
“Cheshire Home pray for a wonderful past to return quickly.
We hope our prayers will be answered,” said Sr Philomena.
FilaTropic Pappu Sardar, a regular visitor to Cheshire Home, said Diwali and Christmas are two important opportunities inhabited by prisoners.
“It’s nice to know that the enthusiasm Diwali has gripped Cheshire’s house.
Need to be careful in our celebration because Covid hasn’t gone,” said Sardar, who was popular as a fan of Madhuri’s actor Dixit Nene.
