Mangaluru: Universities in Dakshina Kannada will begin registering new voters who will be 18 years old on January 1, 20223, and are studying in scholars and other courses.
According to the district government, this is an initiative that aims to register as many as 32,000-35,000 students who will become the first voter.
Providing details, Dr K v Rajendra, Deputy Commissioner Dakshina Kannada, said that registration will be carried out through the Helple Voter application.
“Most of those who finish 18 years are in the first year’s UG course.
They concentrate on academics and do not show interest in registering the voter list.
So, there is a rush when elections close.
It produces several mistakes on the list.
To avoid hurried Buru last minute, the district government has emerged with this campaign which will be held in all districts, “he said.
According to the plan, the Principal will be appointed as a nodal officer.
If it is not possible, then senior faculty members must be given responsibility.
Furthermore, lecturers will be assigned to each class and are given the task of collecting details of all 18-year-old students or on January 1, 2023, but do not have voter IDs.
Higher Education will compile details and mass registration will be carried out in the coming days.
Bulk registration date has not been resolved, said Rajendra.
Karnataka, educational hub, is home to thousands of students.
District administration estimates that almost 70 percent of students do not have voter IDs.
Kumar, CEO of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, said there were few young voters aged between 18-19 years in Dakshina Kannada compared to other districts.
“Our goal is to register new voters through the Helplle Voters application and prevent the manual system.
Daylong training for Nodal officers who go to this campaign are planned on December 23.
Nodal officers will be given information and training where documents to collect registration.”
