Coimbatore: The powerful DMK has begun the process of choosing candidates for the selection of urban local agencies throughout the state.
While interviews for potential candidates began in Chennai, Madurai and several other places before Pongal, Minister of Electricity V Senthil Balaji will interview prospective party tickets in Coimbatore from Monday.
“People who have submitted a request to fight for polls for various posts in the company, the city, and Panchayats City can participate in interviews,” said Secretary of the DMK district of Lemaat Nimbatore n Karthik.
Initially, the interview would be held for candidates from the city and then for those from Polachi, Mettupalayam and Panchayats and Valpai City on the second day on Tuesday.
Candidates will soon be selected after the interview and list of selected names will be sent to the party headquarters, where it will be finished.
Because Coimbatore remains an important place for DMK, candidate selection will be a difficult process, partymen said.
“While the financial background will be a factor, the reputation of candidates among voters and the goodwill they enjoy among the parties will also mean a lot,” DMK official said.
In Chennai, the party has begun interviewing potential candidates two weeks ago and the same thing has been completed in several places like RK Nagar, Pengurur, Thousands of Lights, Chepauk-Triplicane and Anna Nagar.
Interviews were carried out by the panel consisting of senior leaders such as Daridhi Maran.
Although there is a minimum of 15 to 25 applications from each ward, the panel has chosen three names per environment after the interview.
This list will be sent to the high party order to select candidates.
The selection of candidates has begun in Madurai and Trichy too.
BJP has also started an interview in full swing to choose candidates.
The party has conducted an interview in Chennai from January 5 and senior party, including former Minister of PON Radhakrishnan and Secretary General of Karu Nagarajan, have met candidates from all 200 wards in Chennai.
Saffron will conduct similar interviews in Coimbatore and Madurai, followed by other parts of the country.
After all candidates interviewed, the command of the high party will announce the last list of candidates.
The coordinator with Aiadmk Edappadi K Palaniswami, meanwhile, held a meeting with party officials in Salem a week ago to discuss the preparation of the local agency poll.
AIADMK men say candidates will be announced at the right time.
