Bengaluru: Just like the third wave peaked and skyrocket infection, health care companies in Bengaluru wrestle with severe staff crises due to the increasing number of employees they were testing positively, reported Sunitha Rao R.
A total of 18 operating theater staff had changed positively.
In the last three days at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.
The doctor said it was a very stressful time for them.
Some hospitals have delayed elective surgery.
Health care companies throughout the capital city were launched under severe staff crises because many of their employees were testing positive Covid-19.
With infection which continues to increase over the past week, resources have been stretched and services in several affected hospitals.
For example, 18 operating theater staff have contracted an infection for the past three days at the Sri Jayadeva Sciences and Research (SJICSR) institutions managed by the state, which looked at the 1,050 patients at the OPD alone.
Infected staff include 10 cardiac surgeons and two anesthesia experts.
Hospitals have now been forced to delay elective procedures.
At Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD), 30 staff have been tested positively, including doctors.
The situation is no different at the KC General Hospital where only one week, 37 staff contracted viral infections.
While the staff infected with themselves, their symptomatic contacts and colleagues are in quarantine and contacts without symptoms must continue to work.
The hospital has treated people with severe acute respiratory disease (Sari) negative for Covid-19.
“So far our work has not been hampered and we manage with existing staff,” said Dr.
C N Nagaraja, Director, Rgicd.
“But some key staff have been infected.
However, no one in those who need hospitalization and they all recover in isolation of houses.” However, Dr.
CN Manjunath, Director, Sjicsr, said things were uncontrollably.
He said the hospital had no choice but to delay the procedure of choice.
“In the heart complications, elective operations will soon become an emergency operation.
This is a call that is difficult to take, but we have no choice,” he said, admitted that he was afraid of the possibility of more positive staff.
Most hospitals do not test infected employee contacts unless they show symptoms.
“If we start searching for contacts in the hospital, the majority will test positive.
We will end up with very few doctors and nurses.
Cases surged among administrative staff as well.
So, the policy is only to test those who have symptoms.
Nothing Must let their guard down, “said the authority of another country’s hospital.
The hospital also told the staff affected by Covid that they had to return to work once their symptoms were reduced on the seventh day or eighth.
“There is no quarantine period for people who do not have symptoms after the seventh day,” said a doctor.
From 37 down with a disease in KC General, 10 is a doctor and 13 is a nurse.
“While they all have mild symptoms, only nursing students who live in hostels are treated because they do not have a house to isolate themselves.
All steps to control infection exist to prevent deployment,” said Dr.
Br Venkateshaiah, medical supervisor, KC General.
Private hospitals are also not immune.
At the Medical College Hospital Ms Again, 46 nurses and 30 doctors had been infected in the past week.
Dr Harish K, Associate Dean, said there was no testing needed after recovery and they would return to work within a week.
“It hasn’t affected much work,” he said.
Dr.
Vivek Anand Padegal, Director, Pulmonary Disease, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road said, “A large number of our staff are testing positive.
Higher cases among those who work in non-covid wards.” He said someone could not reduce his safeguards when infection spreads quickly
