Docs remove infected lung parts Musormycosis

Coimbatore: The team of doctors at the Cardiothoracic Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) department treats a 37-year-old man by releasing parts of his left lungs that are infected with Mukormycosis.
The lower lobe, which is around 40% of the left lung, is removed in the surgical procedure so that it prevents the infection of deployment to other parts.
“While lobectomy (removal of organ lobe surgery) is carried out for patients with tuberculosis and fibrosis in the cardiothoracic surgery department, this is the first time it is done for mukormycosis in CMCH,” said CMCH Dean A Nirmala.
He said Musormycosis had a systematic spread.
If you enter the blood vessels through the lungs, the possibility of infection spread to other nearby organs is very high.
The lobectomy procedure is very important to prevent such conditions.
The team consisted of five doctors led by Dr.
E Seerinivasan, Head of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, carried out operations on September 30.
Patient – L Govindharajan Metture in Salem District – treated in a private hospital in Covid-19 treatment in April.
He has a very high level of lung involvement from Covid-19.
He was treated and dismissed.
He was treated at a private hospital in Salem a few days ago following the complaints of hemoptysis (coughing in blood).
The patient was found to have the left lower left lobe which was infected with mukormycosis.
The patient was referred to CMC.
The doctor in the cardiothoracic surgery department found that mukormycosis had really damaged the bottom of the lungs.
Patients are fine after surgery carried out under the chairman of the Minister of Comprehensive Health Insurance scheme.
The operation will cost around Rs 3-5 lakh in private facilities, Dean said.
