Nashik: A medical team of Nashik Civil Hospital, led by Aht Surgeon Dr.
Sanjay Gangurde, managed to extract coins caught in the throat of a nine-year-old girl.
Gangurde told the Toi that the operation was carried out on Thursday morning and lasted for more than one and a half hours.
“We carry out laryngoscopy procedures to take foreign objects trapped in the cricopharynx, a region right above the trachea.
The patient uses general anesthesia.
His condition is stable and he recovers at the hospital,” he added.
The surgeon said that the girl, while playing at her house on Wednesday night, accidentally swallowed one coin.
“He began to experience a sore throat and had difficulty breathing.
His parents took him to a civil hospital and the X-ray showed that the coin was trapped in Cricopharynx.
He continued to observe in the children’s ward at the hospital last night,” he said further.
He added that he could not be on Wednesday because the girl’s stomach was not empty and therefore anesthesia could not be given.
He ate food and water at home before swallowing coins while playing.
