Doctor: screen for incompatibility rh

Written by news2in

Coimbatore: With 3-5% of pregnant women come to the city hospital with RH incompatibility, the gynecologist recommends the importance of screening.
The RH factor (Rhesus factor) is a genetically inherited protein found on the surface of red blood cells.
When a negative RH mother contains a positive RH child, the mother’s immune system makes RH-positive fetal cells as foreign objects and attack them.
This can cause miscarriages, pre-time delivery, hemolytic anemia or mental and cognitive disorders in infants.
However, complications because of incompatibility can be prevented by medical intervention during pregnancy.
The non-compatible national pregnancy forecast is 2-10%.
The Obstetrics and Gynecological Head of Professors and Gynecology at the PSG Medical Institute Dr.
T V Chitra said that around 3-5% of the pregnancies they saw were incompatible RH.
“However, with timely screening for typing RH blood and medical intervention, complications can be prevented.” The GyneaCologist said that it was important to check the typing RH every pregnant woman on the first visit.
“Negative mothers must have indirect antiglobulin tests.
If antibodies are found, then the level needs to be examined regularly and the development of fetal anemia must be monitored,” Chitra added.
“Anti-D immunoglobulin administration can prevent the incidence of complications.”
