Doctors, health workers demanded a booster shot in Kolkata

Kolkata: There is an increasing request for a dose of booster from anti-covid shots among doctors and other health workers (HCWS) in Kolkata.
HCW was the first vaccinated when the drive inoculation was launched in mid-January this year.
For many people who took vaccines at the beginning, it was seven to eight months after the resolution of vaccination, caused anxiety about protection against viruses.
Times Viewacross-part of the medical expert has supported the demand for booster doses, especially for parts of a more vulnerable population or the virus.
It makes sense at a time when the uptick in the spread of the virus coincides with the reopening sector.
“I am, the first to take Jab on January 16 and I got the second dose in the first week.
It’s time for the government to come out with a policy to offer a booster dose for HCW at least to start,” said a doctor in the government running a Kolkata medical hospital.
The booster dose is an additional shot to prevent fading from the protection provided by the original dose.
Some developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have begun to manage the booster dose to HCWS.
“The booster dose is the requirement of hours.
But when it’s right to give a booster shot for the best results it is also a question.
Assessing the time settings must be done immediately so that the booster dose can be offered earliest because the immune response of the vaccine is expected to start thinning after nine months,” Prabhash Prabhash Said Giri, Associate Professor Pediatri at the Institute of Child Health.
Organizations such as the Association of Medical Services Doctors (AHSD) have written to Mamata Banerjee which appeal to Bengal Cm to take the problem of Booster Shot with a competent technical body at the national level.
“We highly demand a dose of booster to be given to doctors and other HCW earlier,” said Secretary General Ahsd Manas Gumta Professor of Operation.
Senior Clinical Pharmacologist Santanu Tripathi said protection through vaccines was not for an unlimited period; Therefore there are some justifications in demand for booster doses at least for those who are vulnerable like doctors.
“Outside nine months taking the second dose of protection will begin to decrease.
How fast the depletion will remain a problem / investigation problem.
The dose of the booster will be needed.
However, it will face logistics challenges considering the incompatibility of the inventory of demand and the fact that we still have a large population yet to get A single dose.
The government must consider the pros and cons before introducing a booster dose, “Tripathi said.
Director of Pulmonology in Cmri Raja Dhar hopes that the booster dose will immediately feel the need to wait at least 50% of the country’s eligible population to get two doses before the booster dose is launched.
“Once we have around 50% of the qualified population inoculated with doses we can start offering a booster dose that starts with HCW and then goes to other people in high-risk groups like those who have co-morbidity etc.,” said Dhar.
