SLUG: Rare Nagpur Procedure: Fetal Medical Experts from the city conduct sensitive and rare blood transfusion procedures to save unborn twins in the uterus after they develop anemia in the seventh month of pregnancy.
However, severe anemia took the victim in one of the babies who died two days after birth.
Other babies are healthy, said the doctor.
The doctors injected blood through the navel cord to ensure they had not given up due to lack of red blood cells.
The twins were born from a Wardha woman in September.
The doctors say this problem (anemia) is only there until the baby is on the uterus.
After giving birth, they can be fine if blood transfusion is done in the uterus during pregnancy.
Special blood needed for transfusion is governed by Dr.
Harish Warbhe.
Dr.
Alhad Mohite and Dr.
Jitendra Sahu together with their team managed to treat the woman.
“Anemia occurs in a positive baby RH when they are on the uterus of a negative blood group mother Center (NFMC).
Dr.
Sahu, the other NFMC director, said that the latest advancement in the treatment of fetuses (fetal therapy) has enabled this and these babies can survive.
“Without treatment, babies like that die in the uterus,” he said.
In August, pregnant women were diagnosed with liquid in the stomach and chest from one of the baby infants because of anemia.
He was referred to NFMC by his gynecologist at Wardha.
The problem with the fetus was confirmed by Dr.
Mohite and Dr.
Sahu.
Initially, babies with fluid in the chest and stomach were diagnosed with severe anemia.
“This condition is called the hydrops fetalist where the liquid accumulates in various parts of the body due to the heart failure of the secondary anemia.
The heart must pump more blood because the blood of anemia contains less oxygen due to lack of red blood cells.
The presence of hydrops reduces the chances of survival.
Others have mild anemia, “said Dr.
Sahu.
The decision of blood transfusions in infants with severe anemia is taken.
“Transfusion was successfully carried out and there was a reduction in anemia documented by Doppler color,” said Dr.
Mohite.
After transfusion, monitoring with sonography is done every week.
After a week, other babies also began to develop anemia.
“Again, the patient was referred to the NFMC.
This time the baby who received the previous transfusion had moderate anemia and other babies suffering from severe anemia.
It was decided to transfuse in both babies,” he said.

– Strict protocol to regulate the blood of fetal transfusion – various tests are carried out to choose blood – unlike routine blood, it has concentrated red blood cells and very thick – small blood samples taken from babies on the uterus before deciding blood between the blood is transferred – Measurement of color doppler with speed The maximum flow of blood in the baby’s brain artery (Central cerebral artery) can diagnose anemia and its severity, Dr.
