Nagpur: The doctor at the Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) government has recorded an increase in the incidence of a recent toothbrush injury.
Most injuries have occurred among children who are busy playing while brushing their teeth or parents forcibly trying to brush their teeth, or they are driven by someone.
The doctor warned that these injuries in the soft tissue could also threaten the lives if the right treatment was not taken while doing daily activities.
A five-year-old old girl who had a brush in her mouth, was driven by a siblings at home after the brush penetrated her cheek, causing a severe injury.
Dr.
Ritesh Kalasaskar, Professor and Head of the Pediatric Department and Preventive Dentistry at GDCH, told TII that they had to cut to remove brushes when stuck in soft tissue.
“Every year many cases related to toothbrush injuries are reported to our department.
The five-year-old girl was hit by an external object when the brush was in her mouth, leading to the penetration of all brush heads in the buccal mucosa, namely, soft tissue cheeks,” he said.
Kalasaskar added, “The patient is made calm and after the provision of local anesthesia, the incision is made and the toothbrush is taken.
The stitches are given and the patient is stored at follow-up after.
The patient was really normal after one month without a trace of injury.” Doctor Gdch said one reason Improvement of events is limiting movement.
“When most children are limited to homes today, they tend to pamper themselves in damage since morning.
Because there are no rushes for school, they start playing even when brushing.
Most patients live in small houses and It has limited space to move.

“We found that people use poor quality brushes and often don’t change it long,” he said.
Kalasaskar said that in some cases reported from other parts of the world, toothbrushes the posterior neck and causes damage to important organs such as trachea and large blood vessels.
This might lead to serious complications such as respiratory problems, pharynx abscesses, hematoma and even death due to damage to internal carotid arteries, he added.
