Hyderabad: Beaten by a Covid-19 pandemic, eye contribution in Telangana and throughout India dropped more than half for 2020-21 compared to the same period in 2019-2020.

According to the numbers of the Bank India (Ebai) EYE association, compared with 9185 eye donations during 2019-20, Telangana saw 4122 donations at 2020-21.

But during April 2020 and March 2021, only 18,359 corneas were collected.
While estimated at 25,000,000 new cases of corneal blindness occurred in India, the number of corneal transplants was reduced to 12,998 between April 2020 and March 2021 of 27,075 corneal transplants in the previous year according to Ebai.
