Mumbai: Animal activists in Mumbai and also friendly-saving actors and artists urged people not to fly kites for the upcoming Sankranti Makar Festival from 14 to 16 to keep birds.
The celebration of kites-flying during Sankranti Makar kills or endangers hundreds of birds every year.
Therefore, animal rights groups have decided to establish several bird rescue camps in the city during this period.
“We provide addresses and telephone numbers from various bird rescue camps to be established so that citizens can soon hurry birds injured to the nearest camp during the Sankranti Makar.
We also urge citizens to avoid flying kites, especially the glass Sharp.
-Coated spoiled threads because it can cut birds that fly in the sky, “said Honorary District Animal Welfare Officer, Mitesh Jain.
He added that Chinese spoiled utas must also be avoided because this is often proven to be fatal for hairy species.
Actress Sheen Das, Gulki Joshi, Parul Chaudhary, Chitrapama Banerjee, among others, urged people to “say no on the kite” and hand in hand with “Virar Trust Karuna” in saving the maximum bird life.
Actor Manoj Malhotra, Rohan Rai, Kuldip Malik and Jaya Bhattacharya have also sent similar messages on social networks to help save birds.
NGOs like Karuna Trust, Bird Helpline, Bombay SPCA and many more will actively find the wounded bird numbers during the festival.
Maja thread mesh, which is often left behind in tree branches and building banks, can also be fatal trapping birds, and hence, flying kites should not be done, Jain said.
The following are some contact details from the bird rescue camp.
