Srinagar: Emphasis in providing sufficient security to the leaders of Panchayat in Jammu and Kashmir, President of the National Conference of Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the militancy still exists and the government should not live in “the world of Cuckoo and think everything is Hunky-Dory”.
Abdullah, a former main minister, made this comment before the speaker Lok Sabha Om Birla and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at an official event here, was organized as part of a parliamentary outreach program to strengthen Pancayati agencies Raj.
Abdullah asked the Governor of LT to strengthen the security of Panchayat leaders who continued to face the threat of their lives and said the militancy was still in the Kashmir Valley.
“This Panchayat member is a militant target and they need to be protected.
Don’t live in the world of Cuckoo and think everything is Hunky-Dory.
We still face militancy and God know what will happen in the future,” he said in a clear suggestion to the government.
Placing an emphasis on the need to protect the country’s diversity, Abdullah said there was nothing similar between those who lived in Srinagar and Chennai.
“The factor that binds is only the determination that we are together to create this country.
India is a diverse nation and cannot prosper if we do not protect the diversity.” He further said that if the authorities did not protect diversity, then someone could not protect the nation.
“India cannot be run on the basis of one religion.
And there are more threats from the enemy in it.
We know about the enemies that are outside,” Abdullah said.
He further said there was nothing wrong with any religion and that there was no religion that taught us to hate people from various religions.
Abdullah said that the election of Panchayat was held under the government led by him and his son Omar Abdullah.
Reacting to Abdullah, Governor LT said, “I want to make sure (you) the right arrangement has been made for the security of Panchayat leaders.
The government is committed to providing their security and will expand them all aid to fulfill their duties.”
