Coimbatore: Farmers held protests in front of the Collectorate District here on Tuesday, urging the state government to attract proposals to shift the Tamil Nadu organic certification department to Chennai from the city.
S Palanimy, District President, the Tamil Nadu farmer association, which regulates protests, said organic farmers in the Congkan region will face problems, including transportation, if the department will shift to the capital city.
He said more than 2,000 farmers entered organic farming in the soil of 30,000 hectares in the western district of the state.
“The move will make them high and dry.
They have obtained a certificate from the center and used the same to export agricultural products to other countries.
If shifting, farmers will find it difficult to get the support needed.” The protesters urged the district collectors to Take problems with the state government and explain the importance of the center in this part of the country.
