Don't take coercive actions under the new rules: Madras HC tells the Center

Chennai: Madras High Court on Monday held the central government to take coercive actions against digital media companies under the new codes carried out for the Master Information Technology Act.
The first bench from the Chair of the Acting Judge M N Bhandari and Justice P D AudikeSavalu gave orders when the new Public Interest Litigation Petition (PIL) from Indian broadcasters and digital media foundations appeared to hear today.
“The respondent (center) was held back from taking coercive action without court permission,” said the bench and posted this problem to hear further on January 25.
The petition challenges information technology provisions (guidelines for intermediary and digital media ethics and media code) rules, brought in February this year.
Previously, the Petitioner’s senior adviser alleged that the center began a sentence in accordance with the provisions of the rules, although the Bombay High Court had given the intimate period of the rules a few months ago.
The Bombay High Court on August 14 this year remains a sub-rule operation (1) and (3) rule 9 of the rules in 2021.
The Kerala High Court has also passed a similar order to hold the center of taking it.
Action, he shows.
