Gurgaon: Four young men allegedly posed as a prospective tenant, entering a house in sector 95 and held the elderly pair who lived there hostage, fled after robbing cash and jewelry of Rs 40 Lakh.
The modus operandi robber resembles the door bell gang, which is known to enter the house after ringing the doorbell, take residents – generally senior citizens – hostages and loot cash and jewelry.
This is the first time such a case has been reported in a new Gurgaon.
RAM Dayal Verma (80) and his wife Malti Devi, also in the 80s, living in the Grover Gadhi Harsaru colony.
They wanted to retire to sleep after lunch to take a nap around 2pm on Thursday when the doorbell rang.
When Malti opened the main door, there were four men who stood outside, who asked if there was a room to let.
The woman refused to let them enter and when she would close the door, the men pushed her to the ground and forcibly entered the house.
The defendant then tied Malti’s hand and held the hostage in the Gunpoint in the kitchen, while her husband was taken to the bedroom.
One man put a knife on his neck and threatened him to remain silent.
The others ransacked home and escaped with cash and jewelry.
On the basis of Ram Dayal complaints, a case was listed below Section 394 (causing injuries to carry out robbery), 34 (general intentions) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC and the parts of the arm acted in the 10 police station sector.
This is the second incident in two weeks where criminals posed as a prospective tenant to rob parents.
On June 18, they target an old woman in sector 14.
Two young men call the doorbell and ask about the availability of rentals.
They entered the house, holding female hostages and made of gold jewelry, cash and cellphones.
