Madurai: About 54% of the population in Madurai have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine with three mega vaccination camps only benefiting three beneficiaries of the lakh.
District administration is now trying to expand coverage through door vaccination for everyone over 18 years.
“We have started with the door vaccination and complete 100% vaccination in five ward companies.
Now, we are planning a door vaccination in five other wards.
We are still waiting for stock.
After we accept it, we will be able to continue with it,” said Dr.
B Dinesh Kumar , Assistant city health officials, Madurai City.
Similarly, doorstep vaccination for all age groups that meet extended requirements in rural areas from Monday.
“We have collected all the details of all people over the age of 18.
With the help of local body officials too, we are vaccinated through village health nurses (VHNS) in certain fields,” Dr.
Senthil Kumar, Deputy Director of Health Services , said Madurai.
Meanwhile, Mega camps have helped Madurai Regency improve Covid-19 vaccination significantly as a total of 2,94,313 doses given in three camps.
From a 54% population, only 13% are fully vaccinated.
Health officials said that everyone who wants to get the Covid-19 vaccine has advanced to take Jab.
“It’s rather challenging to talk to people and convince them to get vaccinations.
Even though there is a better awareness, there are some who are still hesitant.
We can’t force anyone,” said a health worker.
