Mumbai: Commissioner BMC Iqbal Singh Chahal said it would become unethical and even unfair to provide third-dose health workers when many did not get the first dose and both of their covid vaccines until now.
Discussion about whether health workers must be given the third shot obtained by the recent momentum after 31 MBBS students from the KEM Hospital were positively tested for Covid even though most were vaccinated.
The authority of the citizenship must call from the center asking for mass infections.
Chahal told TII that officials from the center wanted to know what caused infection and whether they were vaccinated.
“Of the infected 31, only one student was not vaccinated and that was also because he was less than 18 years old.
This has nothing to do with the potential for vaccines or the fact that they did not receive booster shots,” Commissioner said.
He said that most students did not show symptoms and were hospitalized only for observation.
“This shows effective vaccines,” Chahal added.
Two students from the second year of MBBS at GS Seth Medical College which was attached to KEM was symptomatic and tested positive on September 27.
This student’s contact is tested.
Dean of the Kem Dr.
Hemant Deshmukh Hospital said that nearly 900 students had been tested, where 31 became positive.
