Bhubaneswar: Even when the coverage of the Covid vaccine in the country’s capital approaching saturation, the situation is bleak in other cities where less than 20% have been given a good dose, the Ministry of Health’s report was stated on Wednesday.
This situation is worse in rural areas where the coverage of the overall two-dose vaccine is 11.5%.
Analysis of the health department of vaccinated people until Tuesday night revealed that the double dose coverage was around 19% in the cuttack as 87,930 had taken both Jabs to the target of 4.67 lakh.
This figure is 17% in the mix where 63,000 of 3.70 lakh has been fully vaccinated.
Coverage in Sambalpur was 14% (41,226 of 2.89 lakh), and 12% in Rourkela (45,000 from 3.74 lakh).
However, the first dose has been given to 84% of the targeted population in the mixed, 81% in Sambalpur, 78% in Cuttack and 69% in Rourkela.
The state has provided a total dose of 1.72 crore, including the first dose of 1.31 crore (37%) and the second dose of 40.38 lakh (11.5%).
The target population for vaccination (all over 18 years) in this country is 3.5 crores.
The Ministry of Health has also revised the coverage of a double dose vaccine in Bhubaneswar to 88% (7.38 lakh of 8.42 lakh) as on Tuesday while the first-dose inoculation in the country’s capital has been pegged at 117% because people from outside Bhubaneswar also get themselves are vaccinated here.
Additional Health Secretary Head Pradipta Kumar Mohaparna said the vaccine coverage depends on the supply.
“When doses are available, we have vaccinated around 3.5 lakh doses per day, but sometimes we have to slowly depend on the availability,” said Mohapatra.
He said the second dose coverage in other parts of the country was lacking because the focus on giving at least one dose of covishield, because even it was effective for the most part.
“Instead of following a minimum loophole of 12 weeks, we have followed a maximum gap of 15-16 weeks to manage the second dose of covishield because various studies show this makes vaccines more effectively,” he added.
In Bhubaneswar, the second dose coverage is more because the covaxin is given here, where the gap between two doses is 28 days, said Mohapatra.
More than 1.52 lakh vaccine doses are given on Wednesday, data is updated on the co-win portal show.
