Almaty, Kazakhstan: Police in Kazakhstan killed “dozens” protesters who tried to invade the overnight administration building in the largest city in the country, police told local media on Thursday.
“Last night, extremist troops tried to attack the administrative building, the Almaty City Police Department, as well as the local police commissariat,” Saltanat Azirbek police spokesman was quoted as saying by Interfax-Kazakhstan, Tass and Ria Novosti News.
“Dozens of attackers were eliminated,” he said, adding that the police verified their identity.
According to local media, the Interior Ministry said at least eight law enforcement officers were killed and 317 were injured in violence.
Long seen as one of the most stable former Central Asian former, Kazakhstan who was rich in energy facing the biggest crisis in decades after the demonstrators were angry at the increase in fuel prices storming government buildings.
The Russian-led military alliance said he would send peace maintenance forces to “stabilize” the country, blame mass protests on “outside interference”.
