Thiruvananthapuram: The capital city, which promises the construction of urbanization and infrastructure, almost does not have a part of the green space, according to a draft document prepared for the Trivandrum Master Plan-2040.
Documents, which will be subject to a series of consultative processes in the coming days before finalizing, showing that the total green space area available in the city is approximately 2.2sq km.
It only accounts for 0.01% of total land use.
The availability of per capita from the green space in Thiruvananthapuram is only 2.23sq m and is far below 10-12sq m / person, the standard set according to the formulation of urban and regional development plans (URDPFI) guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban.
The document notes that with the development of the city, the green space is not organized converted into a built-up area.
“Many green spaces that have been proud of by this city have been lost in pursuing urbanization,” document notes.

The plan design recorded Jalan Vellayambalam-Kowdiar as a road model that combines environmental aspects.

It also mentions the park traffic near the main intersection which significantly contributes to the city landscape.
Guidelines noted that open space includes three main categories – recreational space, organized green and other common space (such as empty land / open space, including floodland, forest cover, etc.).
Organized green spread across the housing, environment, community, district and downtown groups.
According to the draft, there are a number of specific local parks and playgrounds for each unit.

It also calls for fair compensation to land owners if the open / green space that does not generate revenue is proposed on private land.
