‘Draft master plan to make Delhi future ready’

NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has said that the draft Master Plan for Delhi-2041 is aimed at making the city future ready as it lays emphasis on major issues like environment, economy, transport and mobility, heritage, culture and public spaces, shelter, and social and physical infrastructure with plans to transform them.
The extensive modifications which the central government proposes to make to the master plan of Delhi are also focused on changing dynamics of planning and development, including land pooling, development of green areas, transit-oriented development as big-time initiatives.
“It lays special focus on rental and small format housing such as service apartments, condominiums, hostels, student housing, worker housing among others.
The whole emphasis is in line with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme, under which a rental housing portal is already being run.
The rental housing scheme would come into effect once the master plan is notified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs,” Bidhuri said in a statement.
“The stakeholders like Resident Welfare Associations, market associations, professionals and other sections have been given 45 days to give their feedback before it is taken up for final approval,” Bidhuri added.
The BJP leader called the draft a strategic and enabling framework designed to guide the future growth of the city and improve the quality of life of the citizens, facilitating economic development of the capital.
“A green development area policy to facilitate green development in the low-density residential area (LDRA) and green belt, has also been formulated and put in the public domain,” Bidhuri stated.
Bidhuri stated that the draft seeks to make Delhi an environmentally sustainable city that offers quality, affordable and safe living, while providing opportunities for economic, creative, and cultural development.
“It suggests suitable incentives to promote non-polluting and clean industries, including information technology and financial services which is the need of the time,” said Bidhuri.
