New Delhi: The Directorate of Income Intelligence has explored imported luxury car racquets involving “the use of diplomatic privileges” in Delhi.
It has seized six cars from various cities and arrested three people so far, including the CEO of car dealers in Gurgaon.
Investigation has revealed the involvement of more players in the racket.
“It is estimated that more than 20 luxury vehicles have been smuggled into India on behalf of diplomats over the past five years, which resulted in error avoiding more than Rs 25 Crore,” DRI claims on Friday.
According to the privileges enjoyed by foreign missions and diplomats, imported cars by them are fully excluded from customs.
Indians or other people otherwise have to pay a 204% task which includes basic customs 125%, IGST 28% and 28.5% of additional costs.
Cars that have been imported in the name of foreign diplomats are transferred to entrepreneurs in various cities that avoid tasks.
Dri conducted a simultaneous search in seven cities earlier this week on people involved in the racket.
The agency has identified individuals based in Dubai as rackets with past history of customs violations.
