New Delhi: The Directorate of Income Intelligence has explored imported luxury car racquets involving foreign diplomats in Delhi.
The agency has confiscated six cars from various cities and arrested three people so far, including the CEO of car dealers in Gurgaon.
Investigations have expressed the involvement of more players in this racket.
“It is estimated that more than 20 luxury vehicles have been smuggled into India on behalf of diplomats over the past five years, which resulted in error avoiding more than Rs 25 Crore,” DRI claims on Friday.
As per the privilege enjoyed by foreign missions and diplomats, imported cars by them are fully excluded from customs.
Indians or other people otherwise have to pay a 204% task which includes basic customs 125%, IGST 28% and 28.5% of additional costs.
“Dri has found a luxury car smuggling racket involving the use of diplomatic privileges,” said the agency.
These cars have been imported in the name of foreign diplomats transferred to entrepreneurs in various cities that avoid tasks.
The agency conducts simultaneous searches in seven cities earlier this week on people involved in rackets.
The agency has identified individuals based in Dubai as rackets with past history of customs violations.
He ‘set’ for all ‘imports’ like that to India from England, Japan and UAE with the names of diplomats.
“Buyers for vehicles will be identified by the CEO of popular chains that deal with the sale of the luxury cars previously owned.
Upon arrival in India, this vehicle will be transported directly to the city of buyers or luxury car dealers.
Domestic registration for this vehicle will be carried out in certain regional transportation offices (Rto) in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, “said Dri.
