Lucknow: Under the rural drinking water supply program Gang Gange Gange, rising the government claiming to supply drinking water to more than 2.5 lakh in rural areas at a level of 40 liters per capita per day.
A government spokesman said that the Department of Rural Drinking Water Supply Nami Gange had installed 28.95,361 hand pumps throughout the state in the past four and a half years and the water supply was confirmed at 2.59,739 rural residences.
The Central Medical and Environmental Health Organization has set a minimum standard of 70 to 100 liters per capita per day for water supply through a pipe drinking water scheme.
However, given the limited resources with the government, the limit has relaxed up to 40 LPCPD, the spokesman said.
“The government managed to benefit several lakh people.
Assuming the availability of 10,000 liters per day of every hand pump, one Indian Mark-II hand pump has been installed per 250 people,” he said.
