Coimbatore: racing against time to complete the Lake Rejuvenation Project, City Corporation has quickly tracked the drive to drive encroachment throughout the water within its limits.
After removing the seven small temples built in breaking the eastern bundle of Mohannamulam earlier this week, The Civic’s body destroyed around 76 houses close to Lake Krishnampati on Thursday.
The houses in Gokulam Colony in Pappanacedaceputhur were there for years and dismantling workers were launched after allonative allternative housing to the population built by the Tamil Nadu Nadu Permit Board.
However, the population rejected the move and demanded that they were allowed to stay there.
Officials held several rounds of conversation, but were in vain.
Finally, officials cut off the power supply and continued with demolition, even though there were objections.
Government officials said the houses were built more than five decades ago, blocking a tributary channel to the City City Lake project, the Civic body has explored encroachment at all eight lakes in the city.
Some residents have approached the court, looking for a bar on demolition, but the court has spent a verdict to eliminate encroachment.

As part of the beauty process, bicycle lanes, pedestrian plazas, the display area and sitting room will be made around the lake.
The Civic body has a plan to regulate wastewater treatment plants in all lakes to treat sewerage before leaving it to the lake.
