Coimbatore: The city traffic police plan to register cases against two-wheeled owners, who have replaced the silencer installed by a factory with the modified.
Police have found a reducer modified on several bicycles, said Deputy Commissioner of Police S Senthilkumar.
“This is a violation under motorized vehicle law, 1988.
Traffic police have been ordered to find a modified reducer when the driver stops the traffic signal.
They will seize the SIM and vehicle documents if they find a vehicle like that,” he said.
“We also instructed motorcycle showroom representatives not to modify new motorbikes.
They must follow the government specifications.
Traffic police visit the garage in the city and instruct operators not to modify motorbikes and silencers.
Such people will face legal action for violating Traffic rules, “said Senthilkumar.
The police registered 6.71,241 cases not to wear helmets and 27,328 cases not to wear seatbelt between January 2021 – October 31, the officer said.
“A total of 12,110 cases of speeding, 1.05,309 cases of red light jumps, 6,027 cases using cellphones while driving, 1,219 driving cases were drunk and 49 overloaded cases were registered.
The fine of RS 3.72.32.360 was imposed on violators in the last 10 months,” he added.
