Hyderabad: While the number of cases of Covid-19 in the state has fallen substantially over the past month, most of the cases that are now reported are people who are not vaccinated not infected previously.
District officials said that they had seen cases throughout the family who were not infected previously.
“Most cases we see are now in the family.
This is a small cluster, usually a single household,” said a medical and health district (DMHO).
At present more cases are being recorded in Karimnagar, Khammam, and Warangal Urban among other districts.
“Unlike before when the outbreak was seen in all regions, spreading from one house to another, now we see a sporadic cluster.
In most cases, this is a family that is not vaccinated infected and even though there are other houses around, it doesn’t spread Like the previous outbreak, “said the Public Health Director of Telangana, Dr.
G Srinivasa Rao.
Those who have not contracted the previous virus and people who are not vaccinated fall into categories are vulnerable and must be extra careful.
“Such people must wear masks even in their homes.
While vaccination is proven to prevent infection, the spread of the Covid-19 virus and every new strain will go through a population that is not vaccinated previously unaffected,” added Dr.
Rao.
Meanwhile, most of the country’s eligible population has not received their dose – an estimated 1 crore.
So far the coverage of vaccination has been largely focused on the larger Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region.
While 95 percent of the qualified population has been vaccinated in the GHMC limit – including Hyderabad, parts of the Medchal-Malkajgiri District, Sanguru and Rangeddy.
However, vaccinations in other districts in all states are as low as 20 to 30 percent, according to health department officials.
While the Ministry of Health has mapped plans to increase vaccination in other parts of the country quickly, it will still take more than two months to provide the first dose for all who qualify.
