Drive to vaccinate 1.5 lakh people in DK on Friday

Mangaluru: Drive mega vaccination will be held in Dakshina Kannada District, to provide 1.5 lakh vaccine doses on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra said almost 500 vaccination sites would be arranged for vaccination drives in the district.
Of the total vaccines, 40,000 vaccines will be given within the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limit.
More than 70% of the target population in the district have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.
Until now, nearly 50,000 people in the district were waiting for the second dose of vaccines.
Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) has been directed at preparing a list of beneficiaries, which have not been given a vaccine.
Although the level of participants in Dakshina Kannada has declined, the government is considering the district as a high priority area, and planning mega vaccination drives, he said.
If the district faces the lack of health staff, a private hospital will be defeated to do mega drives.
The district government will identify several private hospitals to drive free vaccination, and provide vaccines and syringes to them.
This district will also make arrangements for vaccination on the doorstep, exclusively for people who are vulnerable in rural areas and border villages, he added.
The Covid-19 case in DK fell to five months low after more than five months, the number of Covid-19 cases in Dakshina Kannada fell below 100 mark on Tuesday.
The district reported 87 positive cases with a very low testing level of 0.8% test.
While the district reported five deaths, the victim was rising to 1,623.
This district has 1,576 active cases.
DC Rajendra said that the weekly peposititivity in the district was 4.8% in the first week of August, and now it has dropped to 1.6%, he said.
