Coimbatore: Sirantih City-Based Environmental Conservation Group in relation to Rotary Coimbatore Gaalaxy launched a greening project to mark the warning of the seven deaths of former President A P J Abdul Kalam on Tuesday.
Their plan is to plant 5,000 trees on the regional campus of the University of Anna.
Unwhere, who died on July 27, 2015, always dreamed of green countries and did the best to push ideas.
Siruthuli has also launched the challenges of social media – Plant4Life – to get netizens into the tree planting movement.
“We want to bring the aspirations of Kalam of one billion trees for one billion people living.
The benefits of afforestation are many.
Trees include acting as sponges and even relieves and reduces flooding and rising water surfaces,” he said in a press statement.
The NGO said the Plant4Life initiative was an Ode for Kalam, who had kicked its affairs during his term.
People need to plant their chosen young trees, take pictures or videos and post them on their social media accounts with Hashtag # Plant4Life and tag sirsthuli and nominate more friends and followers to take challenges.
Two years ago, Sirsthuli had facilitated the journey of planting 10,000 puppies at the University of Bharathiar.
“This area offers flora and fauna ecosystems that are growing rapidly including wild boar, elephants, deer and peacowls,” NGO said.
