Baghdad: Two Ledfosif-Laden drones were shot down on Tuesday by Iraq’s air defense when they approached Ain Al-Asad airbase, which accommodated US troops, West Baghdad, said an international military coalition official led by US.
US officials in the past few weeks have warned that they expect an uptick in an attack on US forces in Iraq and Syria, partly because of the second birthday of General Iranian Murder General Qassem Soleimani.
A similar attack was thwarted on Monday, when Iraq’s air defense lowered two drones when they approached the US host base near Baghdad International Airport.
Separately, other coalition officials told Reuters that the coalition had carried out an attack on “threats that would occur” after they saw several rocket launch locations near the green village in Syria.
While these officials did not say which countries in the coalition were strikes or those responsible for the launch site, militia forces supported by Iran sometimes targeting US forces in Iraq and Syria.
The United States led the international military coalition against Islamic militants in Iraq and in Syria.
There were around 900 US troops in Syria and another 2,500 in Iraq.
Soleimani was killed on January 3, 2021, in a drone attack near Baghdad airport ordered by US President Donald Trump.
Iranian President, Ebrahim Risi, said on Monday that Trump had to face trial because the murder or Tehran would take revenge.
