Guwahati: The Government Assam has launched a 700 odd village mapping process through drones, which in the future can help limit the boundaries of other countries in the region.
There were around 22,724 villages in Assam, where 700 did not have a map so far and submitted obstacles in implementing government projects and buying and selling land.
This project, assisted by Indian surveys, began this week in Singimari Village No.

Once neighboring countries resolve border disputes between countries with Assam, drones will also limit the border of the border villages once for all, said government sources.
“After the pilot project in Singimari ends, there will be massive mapping exercises in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia where the target is to map around 600 revenue villages,” said Pankaj Chakravarty, Principal of Assam Survey & Training Map.
Significantly, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia villages are inhabited by ethnic and community tribes but this is still not mapped for decades.
“Without a map, the limit is incomplete,” he added.
While Indian surveys have provided drones for training, the rest of the work is being carried out by the Kamrup Administration and Assam survey.

1 Singimari is 2.98 square kilometers, but it might take about a month to complete the survey here.
Maps of a large number of villages were prepared in the state in the 1960s and 70s through conventional mode, but several hundred, including many in the border area, still not mapped.
“Despite the lack of survey pillars on the borders between districts, between states and internationally in Assam, the future plan is to establish this important demarcation pillar with a scientific drone survey.
But a lot depends on the intention of both the state bordering,” said the government’s source.
KAZRUP DC Kailash Kailthik n told the Toi that under Mission Vasundhara, Singimari was the first village mapped.
Kamrup has seen conflicts along the border with Meghalaya, especially in the Lampi area near Boko.
“Finally, once the agreement between the two countries occurs, the final demarcation will be carried out through the drone,” he said.
