Bhubaneswar: There has been an increase in passenger traffic at Biju Patnik International Airport in stages since June with a decrease in good Covid cases in Bhubaneswar and in the places of the city connected with air.
In May, 806 flights arrived and departed from the airport.
In July, the number rose to 1,422 arrivals and departures and in August the figure stood at 1,681.
“But still the movement of the plane is around 50%.
We have flights to Patna but have not been operated,” said Director of Pravat Airport Ranjan Beuria.
“So far in August, we have recorded a 1.16 lakh passenger movement which managed to work around 3,800 a day.
This shows 9% passenger growth in August compared to July,” he added.
He said the numbers included scheduled flights and were not scheduled but not including military members and flying clubs.
At present, only domestic flights are operating from the airport.
During the second wave of Covid, flight services were not suspended as happened during the first wave of pandemic.
When flight service continued after the impact of the first wave of rush, air traffic peaked in March 2021 with 2,038 arrivals and departures.
The lowest flight movement at the city airport was recorded in April 2020, when the entire country went to locking.
There are 29 flights and everything is not scheduled.
