Chennai: Chennai Air Customs has confiscated six postal packages that have 7,990 tablets containing psychotropic substances and two parcels containing 1,225 grams of marijuana at a foreign post office.
The four registered packages were ordered from Chennai to the US by Delhi-based people who were declared documented, found containing 4,790 tramadol hydrochloride tablets (100mg).
Two other packages booked from Chennai to the US by people based in Delhi containing 3,200 Tramadol tablets (100 mg).
Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets are under the category of psychotropic substances as mentioned in the schedule for narcotics of narcotics and psychotropic substances, 1985, export that is prohibited without export authorities issued by competent authorities.
In other cases, 1,225 grams of marijuana was restored and confiscated in the Customs Act, 1962 of two post-ordered packages from the US and Canada.
