Noida / Ghaziabad: From housewives to retirees, as many as 18 independent candidates have submitted their nominations of eight assembly chairs in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad.
While the youngest of them was a 25-year-old housewife, the oldest was 71- retirees in the year, a retired SBI Manager.
Apart from them, there are two teachers of the University of Delhi (DU), each of which will oppose the election of Sahibad and Ghaziabad, respectively, an illiterate candidate who produces its livelihood through marketing products and MA students.
Also among 18 independent is BJP Rebel – Loni Chairman of Nagar Palika Parishad Ranjeta Dhama, who resigned the day before.
Of the total independent candidates, five are women.
While there are three candidates for each other from Noida, Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, Jewar and Dadri, two of Muradnagar and one from Loni, there are no independent candidates who advance in Modinagar so far.
Most candidates want to make a difference for the community and say they have the support of people in their election, while there are some who want to set examples that “authentic” and eligible people must represent the community above the dynasty party and political line.
Many of them do not have a political background and will compete for the first time.
Anita Yadav (25), a housewife from Sahibabad, decided to oppose the poll just 15 days ago.
“I want to do something for women.
I face a lot of discrimination while visiting government offices, which makes me think about our situation.
