Thiruvananthapuram: Anoop SS, a bird observer based in the city, wildlife photographer and members of the Shola natural society, recently made rare findings – he had seen duck spots with Leucism (reduced pigmentation) on a wetland near Chiramoola, Attingal.
It is a white white spot duck (scientific name is Anas Poecilorhyncha) along with a herd of more than 50 Indian duck spots.
Anoop, who works as a teacher in the government of the government, Kuliahoor, saw the bird while traveling to Attingal and HHE clicked on the photo.
He immediately told the bird observer team in Shola Nature Society Suraj Choodal, Kiran RJ, Abin Raj P and Sujith Surendran who followed the findings of Anoop.
They have observed the behavior of birds for the next two days and took photos.
Duck Indian spots are a large non-migratory type that lives on freshwater wetlands across the Indian continental child.
Usually, the duck in this species is gray with a pale head and neck.
They have black beaks with dark yellow tips and white wings with black and black and sparkling fur.
According to Anoop, the duck he found was white with some brown flying feathers and looked different from his herd.
Anoop also explained about color changes in bird feathers.
Leucism is a genetic disorder that prevents pigments, especially melanin, from deposits correctly on bird feathers.
As a result, they look white and different from their species.
