Coimbatore: The Forestry Department is establishing an interpretation center in the government’s timber depot on Jalan Kotagiri in Mettupalayam to create awareness about elephants among children.
The center of Named Vezham (elephant), will educate children in the area of animal conflicts.
The facility, the first in Tamil Nadu, will have an elephant statue of the size.
Mammoth replicas The size of a lifetime has been installed.
Asian and African elephant paintings, Taribs and Skull replicas will also be on display.
“This is an effort to create scientific awareness about elephants among young people.
They must understand the role of the elephant in biodiversity,” said the main school principal forest conservator that I consider.
Butterfly parks and children’s parks will also be arranged near the facility.
“We plan to promote ecotourism.
The Ecotourism Management Committee will be formed and tribal people from Kallar will be deployed to work in the interpretation center.
This will increase their livelihood,” Anwardeen told Toi.
This center is expected to be ready in six months.
