New Delhi: India will immediately introduce the next generation e-passport for its citizens, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
According to the Secretary at the MEA, Sanjay Bhattacharya, this passport will consist of safe biometric data and ensure a subtle share of immigration posts globally.
“It has become an AA effort to improve passport services and introduce new features,” said MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi.
The government has announced in 2016 that new generation e-passports feature enhanced security features such as bio-metrics details may be launched immediately.
E-passport is likely to secure data and curb the threat of a fake passport.
E-passport contains electronic chips.
The chip holds the same information printed on the passport data page.
“The government has given approval for the procurement of electronic contactless inlays for the manufacture of e-passports to Indian security press Nasik,” said MEA to Parliament in 2016.
