Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will expand ‘the gathering of e-waste from the door of the doorstep service to 57 city wards from Saturday.
Until now, the Civic body will collect e-waste from 10 wards every Saturday.
About three quintals from e-waste are collected from this environment recently as part of a special drive.
On July 24, BMC began a campaign to spread awareness among people about giving e-waste to safai karmacharis (sanitation worker) and did not throw it out of their homes.
“Damaged electronic devices, accessories, and other items can not only cause environmental and health hazards, but can also be misused if they fall into the wrong hands.
This is why people should ensure that they are thrown away correctly,” said an official BMC.
Residents can provide their electronic cables such as cables, computer keyboards, damaged parts of mobile phones for sanitation workers.
Van garbage collection has a separate bag to collect e-waste during the door to the door.
This dedicated vehicle carries waste to three different material recovery facilities.
The additional commissioner of BMC Laxmikanta Sethi, “I begged residents to work with sanitation workers.
The e-waste-gathering vehicles will move around the environment in the morning hours, and not only on Saturday, as before.”
