Bhubaneswar: Expert Assessment Committee (EAC), under the Union of the Ministry of Environment, Forest Change and Climate (MOEF & CC), has suspended environmental permit grants to the Utkal Steels JSW proposal for an integrated steel plant near the paradip in Jagatsinghpur Regency.
EAC that discusses the project on January 28 has been seeking additional information from supporters for further consideration of proposals.
Approval by EAC is mandatory to continue the project.
The Sajjan Jindal Led Group has planned 13.2 MTPA raw steel, 900-MW prisoners and 10-mtpa cement milling units.
It also plans to set up jetty captives near the factory.
EAC has searched for land acquisition details for the proposed project, along with supporting documents needed, from the company.
It asks the location of the revised plant layout, shows the above seats, lies in the tidal lines and the existence of the sand hill area and conservation steps that will be adopted in the details of 1.3 lakh trees proposed to be lowered and the steps for the afforestation of compensation will be adopted.
EAC asked the company to hand over a business in non-juridical stamp paper, stating that no construction activities related to integrated steel projects will be carried out.

Read projects by EAC, a group of environmental lovers have urged the panel not to give permission to the proposed steel plants before independent assessment is carried out to study the health impact of the project.
The EAC decision was also almost two weeks after people in the area, where the plant was planned by the company, clashed with the police, opposed the factory, said the EAC decision proved that the JSW environmental impact assessment report was not based on the right facts and studies.
EAC also returned another proposal for the expansion of the power of Bhushan and Steel Limited at Rengali in the Sambalpur district and asked to submit revised applications.
