EC adds a new column for candidates to mention spending on digital campaigns

New Delhi: The Election Commission has added a new column in returning election of candidate election to submit information about money spent on digital campaigns in future polls in five countries.
The candidates used to mention the money spent on digital campaigns in the previous election too, but this for the first time the special column has been made to “capture” the details of the expenditure.
In an effort to examine the spread of Covid-19, the Election Commission has extended the ban on holding a physical rallies roadshow and similar physical campaign events until January 22.
With a ban on outdoor physical events in place, the party uses a digital and online platform for reaching voters.
The new column was made for the first time for elections in Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur by fiddling with the return format.

According to Section 10A of the representation of the People’s Act 1951, a candidate who failed to submit election expenditure in the specified time could be disqualified by EC for a period of three years since the fight.
Towards the announcement of the election schedule, the limit of expenses for candidates to campaigned by the government based on the recommendation of the poll panel.
